Starting with October 2018 Update, Microsoft includes a new tool called Windows 10 Snip & Sketch app which lets you take screenshots on your Windows 10 device, Where you can take a screenshot of a section of your screen, a single window, or your entire screen and edit them, means Snip & Sketch tool lets you draw on it and add annotations, including arrows and highlights. Here this post we discuss, How to use windows 10 Snip & Sketch to take screenshots and set the Print Screen key on your keyboard to open the Snip & Sketch app on Windows 10 October 2018 update version 1809.
Use Windows 10 Snip & Sketch app
Windows 10 Snip & Sketch is the feature replacement of the popular Snipping Tool offer offers similar functionality (take a screenshot).
In advance, the new tool now offers you a variation rectangular clip or freeform clip, or fullscreen clip. draw on it and add annotations, including arrows and highlights also using the Share icon in the upper-right corner that allows a list of apps, people, and devices you can share the file.
Different ways to Open Snip & Sketch App
First, open the Snip & Sketch app from Start menu search, type snip & Sketch and select it from search results.
The Snip & Sketch app also offers a button in the Quick actions panel, which you can use to take faster screenshots. To get to it, open the Notifications & actions panel by clicking/tapping on its button from the bottom-right corner of the screen or press the Windows + A keys on the keyboard you should see the Screen snip button.
Also, you can use the key combo of Windows Key + Shift + S to directly start a region shot. Alternately you can activate it by pressing Print Screen, although you’ll need to activate this option via Keyboard Settings.
- Open Settings.
- Click on Ease of Access.
- Click on Keyboard.
- Under “Print Screen shortcut,” turn on the Use the PrtScn button to open the screen snipping toggle switch.
Take a screenshot, using Snip & Sketch tool
When you open the Snip & Sketch app this will represent a screen like the below image. Now To take a screenshot, click the New button There is three option, Snip now and other two option with delay by 3 seconds and 10 seconds. Or use the keyboard combo ofCtrl + N to directly take a screenshot.
Once you have pressed on the New button, the entire screen dims and, on the top-center area, a small popup menu with a few options appears. Also, in the middle of the screen, you should see a text telling you to “Draw a shape to create a screen snip.”
When you click on snip now the screen will gray out (Just like with the Snipping Tool) and you’ll see a few options at the top that lets you choose what kind of screenshot you want to take:
- Rectangular Clip – you can use this one to take a partial screenshot of your screen, right now, by dragging your mouse cursor on the screen to form a rectangular shape.
- Freeform Clip – you can use this option to take a freeform screenshot of your screen, with an unrestricted shape and size.
- Fullscreen Clip – this option instantly takes a screenshot of your entire screen surface.
Select any of them, and if you are using anything except a fullscreen clip, you can select an area in which you want to take a screenshot.
Edit a screenshot using Snip & Sketch
Once you have taken a screenshot, the Snip & Sketch app opens and shows your newly created screenshot with several options to annotate it. Now you can use the app to edit the screenshot as There are different options available in the Screen Sketch toolbar including Touch Writing, Ballpoint pen, Pencil, Highlighter, Ruler/Protractor, and Crop tool.
After complete editing, you can click the Share icon in the upper-right corner of the app and you will get a list of apps, people, and devices you can share the file with. The experience is similar to other sharing features in Windows 10 like Nearby Sharing.
Can’t find Snip & Sketch app?
As discussed before the new Snip & Sketch app was first introduced on Windows 10 October 2018 update version 1809. So check and make sure you are running the latest Windows 10 version 1809. You can check this by press windows + R, type winver, and ok this will represent the screen below.
