How to Enable and configure night light in windows 10

Windows 10 Night Light, also known as “Blue Light Filter”, is a new feature introduced since Windows 10 Creators Update, to filter out harmful blue light from your computer display and replace it with warmer colors which reduce eye strain and help you sleep better and reduce eyestrain. Its work similar like Night Shift on the iPhone and Mac, Night Mode on Android, Blue Shade on Amazon’s Fire tablets.

On Windows 10 Night light feature is a special display mode that changes the colors displayed on your screen into warmer versions of themselves. Or you can say, Night light partially removes the blue light from your screen to reduce the eyestrain.

Enable Windows 10 Night light

  • Press Windows + I to open settings.
  • Click on System, then Display.
  • Here under color & brightness toggle on Night Light Switch.

Configure ‘Night light’ on Windows 10

Now Click on Night light settings to configure light according to your requirement.

Where you can use the slider to change/adjust the color temperature you want to see at night on your screen.

There is option Schedule night light toggle on the switch that will allow you to manually configure when this mode should turn on.

  1. Such as select Sunset to sunrise, Windows 10 will automatically detect your location and configure Night Light automatically.
  2. Or you can choose the Set hours option to schedule when Windows 10 should turn on and off Night Light.

That’s all, Now Windows 10 will automatically change the color temperature of your screen at the configured schedule to reduce eye strain and improve sleep quality at night.

Cannot enable night light (greyed out)

  1. Press Windows + R, type regedit, and ok to open the windows registry editor.
  2. Here first backup Registry Database and navigate to the following key:
  3. Expand the DefaultAccount key, then right-click and delete the following two subkeys:$$windows.data.bluelightreduction.bluelightreductionstate

That’s all, close Registry Editor and reboot your computer.

Now Open the Settings app -> system -> Display and you should then be able to turn Night Light on or off.
